What Are Buttercup Condoms?
The poor rate of condom use is well known in our country, where more than 1 000 young women were infected weekly with HIV in 2021. According to Dr Mpumi Zungu, director of HIV/STI and TB, and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), just 39% of the population aged 15 and over were using condoms in 2019.
An American study by Mia Barret et al. on correct condom usage among youth found that 70.6% reported that they did not squeeze the tip of the condom before sex. 25% of youth said they did not roll the condom all the way down to the base of the penis, and 49.4% reported that they did not hold the base of the penis when pulling out. 36.9% reported experiencing condom breakage or slippage. All of this poses the risk of unwanted pregnancies and/or exposure to sexually transmitted diseases. The Buttercup design takes care of this for you by alleviating any possibilities of using the condom incorrectly. This, we believe, makes our condoms safer than others in the market.
